How Long Does Delta-8 Stay in Your System?
Short answer: For most occasional users, delta-8 metabolites clear urine in 1 to 7 days. Daily or high-dose users can test positive for 10 to 30 days, and heavy concentrate or edible users sometimes longer. Blood clears in hours to a few days, saliva in 1 to 3 days, and hair can retain evidence for up to 90 days.

Why the range is so wide
Delta-8 is fat-soluble. After use, it is metabolized in the liver into compounds including 11-nor-9-carboxy-THC, which is the metabolite most tests look for. That metabolite is stored in fat tissue and released slowly, which is why a person’s history of use matters more than the dose they took yesterday.
Two people can use the same product and have very different clearance times. Frequency of use is the biggest factor, followed by body composition and metabolism.
Detection windows by test type
| Test | Occasional use | Regular use | Heavy use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Urine | 1–3 days | 3–10 days | 10–30+ days |
| Blood | 12–24 hours | 1–2 days | 2–7 days |
| Saliva | 1–24 hours | 1–3 days | 1–3 days |
| Hair | Up to 90 days, roughly the length of the hair sample | ||
Urine is the test that matters for almost everyone, because it is what employers, courts and probation officers use. The 50 ng/mL screening cutoff is the number most samples are measured against.
What speeds up or slows down clearance
Slower clearance:
- Daily use, especially over months or years
- High-dose edibles and concentrates
- Higher body fat percentage
- Slower metabolism, older age
- Dehydration, which concentrates urine
- Liver impairment
Faster clearance:
- Infrequent, low-dose use
- Lower body fat
- Faster metabolism and good hydration
- Longer time since last use
Note that these shift the odds; they do not give you a reliable number. Anyone who tells you a precise “delta-8 clears in X days” is guessing.
Delta-8 vs delta-9 clearance
There is no evidence that delta-8 clears meaningfully faster than delta-9. They produce the same primary metabolite, and delta-8 products are frequently sold in higher doses than a typical cannabis serving. If anything, high-dose delta-8 edibles can extend detection compared with casual flower use.
How to think about timing
If you have a test coming up, work backwards:
- If you use daily, assume 30 days and stop immediately. Thirty days is the realistic worst case for most people, not a guarantee.
- If you use a few times a week, assume 7 to 14 days.
- If you used once, assume 3 days, and treat 5 as a margin.
- If the test is tomorrow, there is nothing reliable you can do. See does delta-8 show up on a drug test for why detox products do not work.
What about other cannabinoids?
The same logic applies to HHC, THCP and THCO — they are structurally close to THC and produce cross-reacting metabolites. CBD isolate is different: it does not produce THC metabolites, so it should not cause a positive on its own. Full-spectrum CBD with trace THC can, at high doses, over long periods.
Frequently asked questions
How long does delta-8 stay in urine?
One to three days after a single use, three to ten days for regular use, and ten to thirty days or more for daily or heavy use.
Can delta-8 be detected after 30 days?
Yes, in heavy long-term users, particularly with high-dose edibles or concentrates. Thirty days is a common ceiling, not a hard limit.
Does drinking water help?
It can dilute urine enough to fall below a cutoff, but labs check for dilution using creatine and specific gravity, and a diluted sample is usually treated as a failed or invalid test.
Does exercise help clear delta-8?
Exercise burns fat, which can release stored metabolites into the blood — potentially raising urine concentration in the short term. It does not reliably speed overall clearance.
Is delta-8 detectable in hair?
Yes. Hair tests can detect cannabis metabolites for up to about 90 days, roughly the length of the sample analyzed.
